SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Tech carried a one-goal lead into the fourth quarter Saturday, but #3 ranked Aquinas closed with a decisive 6-0 run to hand the Blue Devils a 15-10 loss in a lacrosse matchup at home. The turning point came after Oliver Modderman tied the game at 10-10 with 13:14 remaining, setting off an Aquinas finish that Lawrence Tech could not answer.
The Blue Devils had put themselves in position to win with a strong second quarter. After trailing 3-2 at the end of the first, Lawrence Tech scored five times in the second to take a 7-5 halftime lead. Parker Gannon opened the quarter by tying the game at 3-3 off an assist from Luke Gannon, then Brendan Shinavier scored back-to-back goals to give Lawrence Tech its first lead at 5-3. Sam Provenzano added another less than 11 seconds later for a 6-3 edge, and Luke Gannon scored with 3:05 left in the half to restore a two-goal cushion.
Shinavier led Lawrence Tech with four goals, including a short-handed strike with 1:11 left in the third quarter that gave the Blue Devils a 10-9 lead. Lawrence Tech also got goals from Provenzano, Parker Gannon, Luke Gannon and Brennan Urbas, and Parker Gannon assisted on Shinavier's tying goal in the third. The Blue Devils finished with 28 shots, 19 on goal, and three assists.
Aquinas answered with depth and possession. Braeden Williams and TJ Murphy each scored four goals and added an assist, while Jake Koning finished with three goals. Collin Wildman drove much of the offense with one goal and five assists, including feeds on multiple momentum-changing scores. Aquinas won the faceoff battle 17-11, collected 25 ground balls to Lawrence Tech's 17 and generated 53 shots, including 32 on goal. The visitors also converted two extra-man opportunities, one in the third quarter and another in the fourth.
The third quarter swung back and forth. Koning scored man-up at 14:22 to cut the deficit to 7-6, Murphy tied it at 7-7, and Williams gave Aquinas an 8-7 lead. Shinavier answered to make it 8-8, Murphy put Aquinas back in front at 9-8, and Urbas tied it again at 9-9 before Shinavier's short-handed goal sent Lawrence Tech to the fourth with momentum. That momentum disappeared in the final 15 minutes as Murphy broke the 10-10 tie at 7:09, Williams followed 29 seconds later, and Murphy struck again at 5:39. Wildman added a man-up goal at 4:15, and Koning scored the final insurance goal with 1:29 left.
Despite the loss, Lawrence Tech goalkeeper Dylan Porter kept the Blue Devils within reach for much of the afternoon. Porter played all 60 minutes and made 17 saves while facing 53 shots. Aquinas goalkeeper Austin Hynote stopped nine shots. Lawrence Tech was shut out in the fourth quarter, though, and the late possession gap proved costly as Aquinas finished the game with its strongest stretch. The Blue Devils look ahead to their next matchup Wedesday night as they host Indiana Tech University for the final game of the 2026 regular season.Â
