SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Tech broke the game open early and never let Siena Heights back within reach, racing to a seven-goal first quarter on the way to an 18-7 win Wednesday at Blue Devils Stadium in Southfield. The decisive stretch came in the opening 15 minutes and carried into the middle of the game, when the Blue Devils outscored Siena Heights 11-1 across the second and third quarters combined.
Brendan Shinavier led the attack with seven goals and two assists for Lawrence Tech, setting the tone from the opening minutes. Shinavier scored the first goal of the night at 14:45 of the first quarter off an assist from Parker Gannon, then added a late first-quarter score with 56 seconds left to extend the margin to 7-3. He struck again at 10:58 of the second quarter and added another at 1:43 before halftime, helping Lawrence Tech take an 11-3 lead into the break.
The Blue Devils controlled possession throughout, and that edge showed up most clearly at the faceoff stripe. Ethan Wagner won 18 faceoffs and collected 11 ground balls as Lawrence Tech finished with a 21-7 advantage in faceoffs won. Lawrence Tech also held a 38-14 edge in ground balls and generated 61 shots, including 42 on goal, numbers that kept steady pressure on the Siena Heights defense.
Luke Gannon added three goals and three assists in a balanced supporting effort, while Max Viviano scored early in the third quarter to push the lead to 12-3. Brennan Urbas added a late third-quarter goal with 29 seconds remaining to make it 16-4, and Nick Tatro answered a Siena Heights score in the fourth quarter with a goal at 5:25 to restore a 12-goal cushion at 17-5. Lawrence Tech continued to build separation even as Siena Heights found a few late chances.
In goal, Cooper Case played the full 30:00 for Lawrence Tech, allowing seven goals and making seven saves. Siena Heights was led by Alex Lawson, who scored three times on four shots, and Sean Jablonski, who finished with two goals. One of Jablonski's goals came in the final minute, before Marco Papadelis added a man-down goal with 12 seconds remaining to account for the final margin.
The game followed the shape Lawrence Tech established from the outset. After Siena Heights briefly trimmed the deficit early in the first quarter, the Blue Devils kept winning possessions, kept creating shots and steadily widened the gap. By the time the third quarter closed at 16-4, the outcome had long been in hand, with Lawrence Tech's fast start, faceoff control and finishing around the cage defining the night.
