SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — The Lawrence Technological University women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling to Indiana Tech University in straight sets (18-25, 19-25, 23-25) at the Don Ridler Fieldhouse.
The opening set featured tight back-and-forth action early on, with Lawrence Tech using kills from Maria Trevino Nunez and Kyndal James to stay within striking distance. However, Indiana Tech capitalized on sharp serving—racking up five service aces in the opening frame—and closed on an 8-3 push to claim the set 25-18.
Lawrence Tech looked to regain momentum in the second set, sparking quick offense through setter Dru Temple. Middle blocker Catelyn Chapin scored a timely kill, but the Warriors countered with a heavy dose of outside attacker Lauren Paska and efficient net play. The Warriors capitalized on several late Blue Devil attack errors to pull away for a 25-19 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
The third set proved to be the most competitive frame of the afternoon, featuring 11 ties and six lead changes. The Blue Devils fought back from a late deficit behind strong defensive digs from libero Emily Hagelthorn and key attacks from Trevino Nunez, eventually leveling the set at 23-23. Indiana Tech halted the comeback with a crucial kill from Paska before securing the 25-23 victory on a match-ending service ace.
Trevino Nunez led the offense for Lawrence Tech, putting down a team-high 13 kills while adding eight digs. Temple orchestrated the attack with 23 assists, while Hagelthorn anchored the backline with 20 digs. At the net, James provided a strong defensive presence with four block assists.
Indiana Tech was led by Paska's 11 kills and setter Kristin Matlack's 30 assists. The Warriors proved decisive from the service line, accumulating 12 service aces across the three sets.
Lawrence Tech will look to bounce back when they remain at home for another WHAC clash on Wednesday, September 16, hosting Aquinas College at the Don Ridler Fieldhouse. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
