Box Score SOUTHFIELD, MI – The first half was a quiet, physical affair with limited opportunities for both sides. Lawrence Tech found a rare opening in the 39th minute when
Abigail Gray forced a save from Grace goalkeeper, followed closely by a header from
Natalia Stutz that sailed wide. Meanwhile, Grace College managed just one shot in the first 45 minutes, leaving the game deadlocked at 0-0 going into the halftime break.
The Lancers came out with much more offensive urgency in the second period, out shooting the Blue Devils 6-3 in the half. Lawrence Tech's defense, anchored by goalkeeper MC Michalak, held strong under increasing pressure, turning away shots mid-way through the half. The physical intensity picked up as well, resulting in yellow cards for Lawrence Tech's
Maria Micakaj and
Presley Jones.
Lawrence Tech launched a desperate counter-attack. In the 84th minute, Blue Devils defender
Abby Mowery fired a promising shot on target, but Grace's goalkeeper came up with a crucial save to preserve the clean sheet.
Grace College finished the evening with a slight 7-5 advantage in total shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Blue Devils will play their next match Saturday, Sept. 19 at Blue Devil Stadium against the University of Northwestern Ohio.
