UPLAND, Ind. – The Lawrence Technological University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Taylor University Tournament, falling to Huntington University in the opening match before bouncing back with a five-set victory over Indiana Southeast later in the day.
The Blue Devils showed resilience throughout the tournament, responding from the morning setback with a strong team performance in the afternoon to improve to 6-5 on the season.
Against Huntington, LTU was led offensively by Maria Trevino Nunez, who recorded 18 kills and 14 digs for a double-double. Ella Aberlich and Kyndal James each added 10 kills, while Dru Temple directed the offense with 45 assists. Defensively, Emily Hagelthorn paced the Blue Devils with 24 digs, and Catelyn Chapin anchored the net with eight total blocks.
Lawrence Tech bounced back in the second match of the day, earning a hard-fought five-set win over Indiana Southeast. Trevino Nunez once again led the attack with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Maya Schmidt added seven kills and seven total blocks. Aberlich contributed five kills and seven assists, and Temple finished with 23 assists in the victory.
The Blue Devils received contributions throughout the lineup, with Kyndal James adding five kills, Isabella Meyer recording four kills and three blocks, and LTU's defense helping secure the match in the decisive fifth set.
Lawrence Tech will continue play at the Taylor University Tournament on Saturday when the Blue Devils take on Indiana University East.
