Cheyne Lacanaria was hired as the quarterbacks coach/special teams coordinator for Lawrence Technological University in February of 2020 before adding the title of pass game coordinator in January of 2021.

Lacanaria returns home after spending the 2019 season in Minneapolis where he assisted with special teams in an off-the-field role at the University of Minnesota. While there, he contributed to the most successful Gopher season in over a century. He helped the Gophers to an 11-win season that concluded with an Outback Bowl win vs Auburn. He also mentored two B1G Special Teams Players Of the Week, including Casey O’Brien who also won the 2019 Disney Spirit Award for his unshakable faith in battling cancer.

Before joining the Gopher staff, Lacanaria spent two seasons coaching the tight ends at Wayne State University where he served as a graduate assistant and earned his master's degree in sports administration. In his first season with the Warriors, he had four of his tight ends receive Academic All-GLIAC recognition, including two (Preston Pelham and Logan Smith) who earned All-Academic Excellence honors. At the end of the 2018 campaign, Pelham was voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team and also earned WSU's Ron Solack Memorial "#35" Award.

Lacanaria was a four-year member of the Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) football team (2013-16) as a quarterback and wide receiver. Between his junior and senior season, he combined for over 100 receptions and 800 yards while throwing for over 500 passing yards in his junior season alone. He started his last 21 games for the Battling Bishops, serving as team captain his senior year. Lacanaria was a two-time Red and Black Award winner.

Before his college playing days, Lacanaria was a two-time state champion at Brother Rice High School (MI), serving as a team captain during his senior season. He was the Warrior starting quarterback for the 2011 MHSAA Division 2 State Championship game win over Lowell and tossed a 16-yard scoring strike to his brother on the opening drive in the 2012 State Championship game win over Muskegon.

Lacanaria graduated from OWU with a bachelor's degree in health and human kinetics and resides in Southfield with his wife, Danielle.
