Lawrence Technological University

Kyle Nystrom serves as the Lawrence Tech defensive coordinator, beginning with the 2024 campaign. 

Nystrom, who has head coaching experience in the NCAA Division II ranks in the state of Michigan at Northern Michigan University from 2017 to 2022, got his start in coaching football as a graduate assistant under George Perles at Michigan State in the 1980s.

During the 2023 campaign, Nystrom coached linebackers at Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

In the 1990s, he oversaw the linebacker position at Western Michigan before moving on to coach at TCU in the early 2000s. Nystrom has held assistant head coaching jobs at Central Michigan (2010-2014) and North Dakota State (2006-2008). In the mid-2010s, he ran the defense at Ferris State for Tony Annese and the 2016 Bulldogs squad appeared in the Division II final four.

Nystrom also has spent time in the Big 12, Mid-American and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conferences.

Nystrom’s father, Carl “Buck” Nystrom, was an Upper Peninsula and MSU Spartans playing and coaching legend.
