Shane Lewandowski men's lacrosse head coach 2024

Shane Lewandowski

Lawrence Tech men's lacrosse coach Shane Lewandowski was named to his new post in July 2024. Serving as an assistant coach this past spring, Lewwandowski becomes the third head coach for the program that debuted in 2013.

"Shane built positive, impactful relationships with our student-athletes in his first season on the men's lacrosse coaching staff this spring," stated LTU athletics director Mary Ann Meltzer. "His offensive acumen resulted in an uptick in scoring offense by the team during the second half of the season and a man-up efficiency at 44.4 percent that ranked first in the conference and third in the nation. He has earned this opportunity to be a first-time head coach and I look forward to watching him continue to develop this program into a WHAC contender."

Lewandowski helped LTU to a pair of victories against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponents Taylor (Indiana) and Madonna, both which were receiving votes in the NAIA national rankings. He assisted in securing a 2024-25 recruiting class of eight student-athletes, prepared scouting reports and held film sessions on opponents, and ran the substitution box on game day. He assumed responsibility as the team's offensive coordinator halfway through the season, which resulted in the Blue Devils raising their goals per game average from 10 to 14.33. He also aided in the development of NAIA First-Team All-American and WHAC Midfielder of the Year Grady Holmes and four Daktronics/NAIA All-America Scholars.

"It is an honor and humbling to be selected as the next head coach for LTU Men's Lacrosse. I would like to thank the athletics department for their confidence in me, the current LTU players for believing in me, and my family for their unwavering support," declared Lewandowski. "My vision for the program is a championship-level lacrosse team with a roster that is made up of only the best and brightest student-athletes from around the country. I had the time of my life playing lacrosse in the WHAC conference, and I am most excited to provide our players with a positive and memorable college lacrosse playing experience. I am really looking forward to being tested as a coach!"

Lewandowski's previous collegiate coaching experience was a one-year stint at fellow WHAC member Rochester Christian University (RCU) as a women's lacrosse assistant coach in 2023. He helped recruit six student-athletes, designed practice plans focusing on skill development, game-day strategies and physical conditioning, and conducted film sessions to identify areas of improvement for individuals and the team.

Lewandowski starred at Siena Heights University where he set school career records for total points (182) and goals scored (130). A two-year captain for the Saints, he earned 2015 All-Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Third Team and All-WHAC second team honors in 2017 and 2018. He was the team's offensive most valuable player in all but one season and chosen SHU's season MVP during his junior and senior campaigns in 2017-18.

A 2018 SHU graduate with a bachelor of science degree in environmental science, Lewandowski is currently working on his master's degree in sports leadership at RCU.

He also has club coaching experience with Betta Lax, Lenawee Youth Lacrosse and All American Lacrosse.

Lewandowski is quite comfortable in the role of college recruiter as he also has worked in the RCU Admissions Office since October 2022. In this role, he was responsible for the recruitment of 25 students from Oakland County; secured 31 deposited students from the County for the 2023-24 school year; provided guidance to prospective students and their families, addressing questions about admissions requirements, financial aid, and campus resources; helped form a positive working relationship with the Pontiac Promise Zone Organization; visited each high school in his assigned territory, planning fall travel around on- and off-campus recruiting events; and participated in college fairs, campus tours and other recruitment events.
