SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) men's soccer team used a 90th minute, Pablo Ripodas goal to defeat Indiana Tech on Homecoming at LTU Athletic Field on Saturday evening.
"It was great to finally get that first homecoming win," LTU Head Coach Will Dyer said. "Every game against Indiana Tech and in conference is a battle. Today was a full team victory, everyone played a part. Credit goes to Indiana Tech, they fought to the last second."
Lawrence Tech (5-4-1, 1-1-1 WHAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute as Alek Nestorovski shot from the far side hit the near corner of the goal.
In the second half, Indiana Tech tied the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute on a Brennan Cochran goal that Jacob Allen had attacked high in the box, but the ball slipped past and trickled into the net.
The game stayed tied until the final minute, when Kevin Wright crossed the ball to Ripodas who scored with 24 seconds left on the clock. LTU was able to hang on in the final moments as Allen and the LTU defense kept the ball out of the net.
Matt Gibiec finished the game with three shots, while Ripodas added the game-winning goal and two shots. Nestorovski recorded a goal on two shot. Allen made one save on two shots.
"We now have to get ready for a very good Aquinas team," Dyer said. "We know that Aquinas has a very strong and tactical team. We need to be ready mentally and physically for them."
Lawrence Tech returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 7 at 4 p.m. when they welcome Aquinas College (Mich.) to Southfield, Mich.
