DEARBORN, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated University of Michigan - Dearborn 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 14-25, 25-10) to move above .500 for the first time this season.
Lawrence Tech (14-13, 4-5 WHAC) won the opening set after falling behind early. The Blue Devils trailed the Wolverines 4-1 to start set one, but 5-0 run for LTU gave the Blue Devils a 6-4 lead. Michigan-Dearborn tied the set at 18-18, but Lawrence Tech but LTU scored six of the next eight points to win the set 25-20.
The Blue Devils trailed 6-2 to open the second set, but a 6-2 run tied the match at 8-8. That was all LTU needed to get going in the set as they went on to cruise to a 25-14 set win and 2-0 match lead. The third set was all Michigan-Dearborn as they reversed course to win 25-14 and cut the lead to 2-1.
However, Lawrence Tech ended up being too much for the Wolverines as they won the fourth set 25-10 and the match 3-1. The win gives LTU 14 wins on the season, four shy of their single-season record for wins at 18 with seven matches left to play.
Alisha Stidam (JR/Barrie, Ontario CAN) and Briana Reum (JR/South Elgin, IL) both finished the match with 11 kills while Zakia Hunt (FR) added nine and recorded a .412 hitting percentage.
LTU is back on the court October 19 at No. 18-ranked Madonna (Mich.) University. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
