Men's Basketball grabs win over Judson 76-67

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Blue Devils (2-0) looked to come out against a feisty Judson (0-2) team Saturday afternoon inside the Don Ridler Field House, their first home game of the season. This game was initially scheduled to be played at Madonna University in the Madonna Classic. Still, due to COVID related things with a team playing in the tournament, it was moved to Lawrence Tech.

A back and forth first half between the Blue Devils and the Eagles saw the Blue Devils go into halftime up 36-30. The Blue Devils did start the first half off slow, missing a slew of shots before finally nailing their first shot at the 13:53 mark with a three from Carter Frantz to make it 7-3. A back and forth couple of minutes with the Eagles saw the Blue Devils take the lead at 11:04 to go up 13-10.

As the second half got underway, both teams' slow start gave neither the advantage as both teams turned the ball over numerous times. Throughout the second half, the Eagles were in the game, just not capitalizing on turnovers and missed shots from the Blue Devils. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils capitalized on mistakes by the Eagles but still made mistakes themselves.

Overall the Blue Devils went 42 percent from the field, shooting 24-57, while they shot 30 percent from beyond the three-point arc, shooting 9-30. Lastly, the Blue Devils went 73 percent from the charity stripe, going 19-26 on the afternoon. Brandon Beavers had 25 pts 6 assists, and 7 rebounds; today, Isaiah Cumberland had 14 pts and 6 boards, and Carter Frantz had 14 pts. Gunnar Gustafson had 13 pts, 7 rebounds, 2 monster dunks, and 3 assists on the afternoon, while Alek Ivanovic had 5 pts and 4 rebounds. Other Blue Devils to score were Sebastian McClellan, who had 3 pts, and Shamar Mathews had 2 pts.

Up next for the Blue Devils sees the Foresters of Huntington University come to the Don Ridler Field House for a Tuesday night clash slated for a 7 pm start.
