Blue Devils Split Weekend Series against Northwood

Farmington Hills, Mich - The Lawrence Tech University Men's DIII Hockey Team split a pair of weekend games against the Northwood Timberwolves. The men won a close one in overtime 6-5 in the first match, but fell just short in the second match 5-6.

Game 1 – Just after one period the score was tied 1-1 thanks to a goal scored from Adam Parker five minutes before the buzzer, with an assist from Blayne Young.

The second period was more one sided, while the Blue Devils were able to shut out the Timberwolves scoring 2 goals of their own. Martino Zaia helped LTU take the lead in the second, while Tyler Drummy extended the lead to 3-1 late heading into the third. The Blue Devils were hopeful this lead would give them momentum to come out with a win.

The third period both teams battled for victory leaving it all out on the ice. Northwood didn't back down from a 3-1 deficit, as they were able to strike back to back goals to tie the game up 3-3. The Blue Devils were able play very scrappy finding the back of the net two more times (Kenneth Malinoski, and Dylan Smith) to take a 5-3 late in the third. This game would eventually go to overtime.

Just 46 seconds into OT, Collin Clark was able to seal the victory with a goal of his own, assisted from Dylan Smith. Your Blue Devils won 6-5. In the win, LTU had 37 shots on goal and added 15 minutes of penalties.

Game 2 - The second game saw a lot of first period action as far as offensive goals, leaving the period all tied up 2-2. The Timberwolves were able to strike first in the second period, but LTU came right back minutes later to tie it back up going into the third.

Falling short of victory in Game 2, LTU's Freshman Forward, Collin Clark was a very well-known name throughout the weekend scoring a hattrick. His scoring ability was just not enough as The Timberwolves of Northwood were able to escape with the win 5-6. Owen Przybylo had 33 saves on the night and only a surprising 8 minutes of penalties.

Next up the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils will play back to back games against a solid Schoolcraft College hockey team. The puck will drop Friday, February 7th at 8:15pm EST, and Saturday, February 8th at 1:30pm EST. For any updates on LTU athletics please visit us on social media.
