SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils D1 hockey team met up with Cleary in a home-in-home to open conference play. The Blue Devils controlled both games of their weekend set, coming away with an undefeated weekend.
Friday vs. Cleary, W 4-2:
- John Horn and Maximus Nguyen set up Liam Bland the first goal of the game with five minutes left in the first period
- Jonny Gardiner scored for Cleary which led to a 1-1 draw into first intermission
- Jonny Gardiner scored midway through the second period to give Cleary a 2-1 advantage
- Cole Therrian put one behind the crease, off assists from James Jentz and Horn to knot it at two heading to second intermission
- Patrick McGowan and Brendan Preiss both with a goal and an assist in the third to lift the Blue Devils
- McGowan's goal from Preiss and Jacob Stawinski to give the Blue devils the lead and Preiss' goal to slam the door on the Cougars, from Keegan Rundle and McGowan
Saturday @ Cleary, W 6-1:
- The first period went quietly, as no goals were scored
- Preiss from McGowan to start the second period
- Rundle made it 2-0 off a Garrett Sample assist
- Thimo Ey's unassisted goa gave the Blue Devils a commanding 3-0 lead heading to second intermission
- Jonny Gardiner tried to make it respectable, putting Cleary on the board. LTU 3, CU 1
- Jentz, Bland, and Bradley Scott would add to the Blue Devils lead in the third with goals of their own. LTU 6, CU 1
The Blue Devils (5-0-0, 2-0-0) continue WHAC play as they face Concordia in a home-and-home on October 14th (in Chelsea, Mich.) and 15th (at home, in Farmington Hills, Mich.).
