D1 Hockey Extends Hot Streak to Seven Games

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils D1 hockey team met up with Concordia in a home-in-home in conference play. The Blue Devils dominated both games of their weekend set, coming away 2-0 on the weekend.

Friday @ Concordia, W 7-1:

  • Maximus Nguyen scored the first goal of the game off a dish from Patrick McGowan early in the second period
  • James Jentz added a goal a minute later to give LTU a 2-0 advantage
  • Justin Hubenschmudt and Nguyen find Blake Heier to put one in the net
  • Keegan Rundle and Jacob Stawinski also joined in on the second period scoring party off assists from Thimo Ey and Jentz, respectively
  • LTU led 5-0 heading to the third period
  • Heier scores his second of the evening off a helper from Cole Therrian 
  • Concordia would finally get on the board late in the third period when Brandon Troyer scored with 5:13 to go
  • Ian Kuntz would end the scoring for the evening with his unassisted goal, =

Saturday vs. Concordia, W 6-1:

  • The first period went quietly, as no goals were scored
  • Hubenschmidt snagged two goals in the second period off solo assists from Ey and John Horn
  • Seth Francois scored one for the Cardinals to make the game respectable at 2-1 in the third
  • McGowan sets up Rundle giving the Blue Devils a 3-1 lead down the stretch
  • John Horn would tack on an empty-netter from Hubenschmidt to slm the door on a comeback. Blue Devils 4, Cardinals 1.
The Blue Devils (7-0-0, 4-0-0) continue WHAC play as they face Rochester in a home-and-home on October 21st (at home, in Farmington Hills, Mich.) and 22nd (in Fraser, Mich on the road).
