Southfield, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University men's volleyball team were up two sets to one over the (RV) Goshen College Maple Leafs but were unable to shut the door as they fell in five sets (21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 8-15) on Tuesday evening.
First Set:
- GC races out to 10-4 lead to force LTU timeout
- Maple Leafs' attack error gets Blue Devils within three at 17-14
- Jeffry Fuhrmann keeps Blue Devils within reach at 23-19
- Costly LTU service error followed by attack error gives set to GC, 25-21
Second Set:
- Fuhrmann finish puts LTU ahead 11-5
- Another Fuhrmann kill gives LTU a 17-11 advantage
- GC got as close as five (21-16) but set belonged to LTU, 25-18
Third Set:
- Teams traded points early on before GC opened up some breathing room at 17-12
- Felix Perez's kill kept LTU within five at 21-16
- Blue Devils were unable to cut the deficit further, falling 25-18
Fourth Set:
- Neither team leads by more than two as the set is knotted at 16-16
- 5-0 spurt by GC gives it a 21-16 lead
- Perez halted the momentum but the Maple Leafs closed out the set, 25-21
Fifth Set:
- GC gets out to 5-2 lead to force LTU to talk things over
- Maple Leafs' kill extends margin to five, 10-5, as Blue Devils burn second timeout
- Perez pauses run, but Maple Leafs cruise to 15-8 set win
