Ave Maria, Fla. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils baseball team traveled to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes. They split the two games, losing 15-7 in the opener and winning the second game 20-5.
Game 1:

• Ben Schmidt got the start for the Blue Devils, he pitched 5.2 innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, one walk, and a hit batter, striking out eight.
• Jackson Walkowiak singled in Harry Storch in to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead
• The Gyrenes answered back in the bottom half when Jose Gonzalez doubled in Kolby Blanchard and Daniel Caylor
• In the third, Nick Olsen hit a bomb to right, scoring himself and Storch, reclaiming the lead
• The Blue Devils added another in the fourth, as Walkowiak doubled in Olsen
• In the bottom half of the fourth, David Leonardi knots the game at four apiece with a homer to left, scoring Eli Garcia
• Kellen Banaszewski hit a bases-clearing double in the fifth scoring Brent Dulecki, Jake Llaneza, and Trent Reed. LTU 7, AMU 4
• The Gyrenes answered with an unearned run in the fifth when Blanchard scored on Schmidt's throwing error
• Ave Maria put an 11-spot on the board in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 16-7 led
• The Blue Devils went quietly in the seventh
• Schmidt was credited with the loss

Game 2:

• Dominic Puccetti took the bump for the Blue Devils, pitching a complete game, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and eight walks, striking out 11 in the process
• The Blue Devils started early, scoring five in the first, the first coming on a bases-loaded wild pitch to score Banaszewski
• Trent Reed singled in Luke Bushey to double the lead
• Llaneza brought in Olsen with a single
• Kellen Harding blooped a single scoring both Reed and Llaneza. LTU 5, AMU 0
• Walkowiak hit a sac fly scoring Banaszewski in the second
• Reed also hit a sac fly scoing Bushey, however the center fielder could not handle the routine fly, allowing Reed to end up on second.
• Ave Maria joined the scring in the second on a passed ball. LTU 7, AMU 1   
• In the fourth, Walkowiak homered and scored Olsen giving the Blue Devils a 9-1 lead
• The Gyrenes would score to on the basepaths, one on a stolen base/error combo and the other on a wild pitch. LTU 9, AMU 3
• The Blue Devils would place a 6-spot on the board in the top of the fifth, extending the lead to 15-3
• Gonzalez scored Blanchard with an infield single. LTU 15, AMU 4
• Garcia singled in Francesco Barbieri, bringing them within ten. LTU 15, AMU 5
• Olsen homered to kick off a 5-run seventh
• Puccetti put away the Gyrenes in the seventh quietly to shut the door
• Blue Devils win 20-5

The Blue Devils (3-5) return to action on Tuesday, March 8 for a doubleheader against Dordt, for 4 pm and 7 pm starts.
