Howell, MI - The #1 Lawrence Technological University women's lacrosse team played against Cleary University on the road Saturday afternoon. After a hot scoring start in the first period, the Blue Devils controlled the pace of play the entire contest. LTU would beat Cleary by a final score of 21-2.
How It Happened: CU 2, LTU 21
- Abbey Smentowski put LTU up 1-0 just 45 seconds into the game.
- Abby Barnewold and Smentowski scored back-to-back goals within less than a minute apart to go up 3-0.
- A Hannah Huebner goal came at the 8:03 mark in the first.
- Extending the lead to 7-0 before the period ended was Gabi Mitchell, Jaisanna Jarvis and Huebner.
- Huebner scored her second of the match less than a minute into the second period.
- A trio of goals for the Blue Devils happened with 8:41 left in the second by two from Barnewold and one by Sydney Robinson .
- Cleary scored their first goal with 2:25 before the break.
- LTU entered the locker room up 11-1.
- The Cougars scored first to open up the second half.
- LTU answered back with three unanswered goals to go up 14-2.
- Goals by Axey Vang, Bella Burke and Smentowski increased the margin to 17-2 with just under four minutes to play in the third period.
- LTU led 18-2 after three.
- Robinson scored off a free position shot with 12:16 to play in the game.
- Minutes later, Robinson found an open Mitchell to go up 20-2.
- LTU would win this game by a final score of 21-2.
