Late Rally in Game One, Walkowiak's Bomb in Game Two Lead to Sixth Straight Win

Ann Arbor, MI - The Lawrence Technological University baseball team played a doubleheader on Saturday against the University of Michigan-Dearborn on their senior day. A late rally in the first game would lead to a Blue Devil victory 5-2. 

How It Happened: Game One - UMD 2, LTU 5 (Final 7)
  • Not much action early in this game as LTU would go down swinging twice and would leave one runner on in the first three innings.
  • In the bottom of the third, the Wolverines lead the inning off with a homer to right field.
  • Later in the inning, a single and walk led to an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
  • The Blue Devils left one stranded on second in the fourth.
  • Alek Wietryzkowski would shut down the UMD batters in the next two innings on one strike out and only two hits.
  • In the top of the sixth, Harry Storch led off finding the left field gap for a double.
  • Nick Olson would advance Storch to second, and Jake Llaneza's double to right drove in Storch.
  • Next up in the box was Jackson Walkowiak as he drove in another run after a single to right to tie the ball game at two.
  • Logan Barker and Storch both reached base on an error that brought around two more runs as LTU took the lead 5-2.
  • The Blue Devils held UMD scoreless in the last inning to beat the Wolverines 5-2.
By The Numbers:
  • Wietryzkowski pitched 6.1 innings on 4 H, 2 R, 5 SO, 3 BB.
  • Walkowiak went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Stroch and Llaneza both went 1-for-4 with 1 run. Storch with an RBI.
  • Trent Reed and Sam DeKuiper both went 1-for-3. DeKuiper with a run.
How It Happened: Game Two - UMD 8, LTU 9 (Final 11)
  • The Blue Devils look an early 2-0 in the second inning Llaneza's double, then later scored after Walkowiak reached base from an error.
  • Jason Erhardt would drive home Walkowiak after his single up the middle.
  • LTU would hold UMD scoreless in the second and third.
  • Storch hit a double to left center in the fifth to score Nathan Brown to make it 3-0.
  • The Wolverines scored two runs in the bottom half on a two doubles to right field to close the gap to 3-2.
  • The bats got hot for LTU in the sixth after Llaneza tripled, the Walkowiak and Reed both singled to score a run.
  • Batters later a walk would bring in another to extend the lead to 5-2.
  • To cut the deficit to 5-4 for the Wolverines was Ochoa after his RBI single to left in the sixth and a leadoff homer in the seventh by Begley.
  • UMD scored three runs to take the lead  5-7 in the eighth on three singles and a double.
  • Walkowiak came through big for the Blue Devils with a two-run bomb to right center to tie the game up at seven a piece to send the game to extras.
  • Kellen Banaszewski gave LTU a one-run lead from a single to right.
  • The Wolverines scored on a passed ball in the 10th.
  • Two singles by Walkowiak and Reed brought Allen around to give LTU the lead 9-8 in the 11th.
  • The Blue Devils would steal game two in dramatic fashion by a final score of 9-8 (Final 11).

  • Dominic Puccetti threw 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 10 K's
  • Llaneza, Erhardt, and Walkowiak combine for 9-for-15, five runs and five RBI's
  • Reed and Storch both record two hits and two RBI's.
The next Blue Devils doubleheader is on Sunday, May 1 when they travel to Adrian, MI to play Siena Heights University at 1 PM.
