Baseball Ends Regular Season With a Win

Adrian, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University baseball team traveled to makeup the back end of a doubleheader against Siena Heights on Sunday.

How It Happened: LTU 11, SHU 5
  • The Blue Devils would tally three hits, two of which plated runs, as Jackson Walkowiak's triple brought in two and Trent Reed singled him in
  • A solo shot by DeKuiper in the second gave the Blue Devils a 4-0 lead
  • Nick Olsen's conference-lead-tying 13th homer of the year in the third extended the lead to 5-0
  • Ben Schmidt sent the Saints down in order in the fourth.
  • In the top of the sixth, DeKuiper walked and Nathan Brown was hit by a pitch, before a double steal put them both in scoring position.
  • Jake Llaneza's double to the gap in right-center drove in both DeKuiper and Brown. LTU 7, SHU 0
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Siena Heights would answer, turning five straight hits into three runs, before a Hadyn Smith single up the middle scored two, cutting the LTU lead to two
  • Each team was held quietly until the ninth
  • Llaneza tripled in Olsen and Kellen Banaszewski for some insurance runs
  • Reed would score Llaneza with an RBI single. LTU 10, SHU 5
  • Jeremy Flattery would set the Saints down in order in the bottom of the ninth to earn his first save of the season
  • The Blue Devils held UMD scoreless in the last inning to beat the Wolverines 5-2.
By The Numbers:
  • Schmidt pitched 6 innings allowing 5 runs on 10 hits with a walk, striking out four (78 pitches).
  • Flattery came on and threw three shutout innings, allowing one hit, striking out two (35 pitches).
  • Olsen went 1-for-2, 4 R, 2 BB, extending his hitting streak to 22 games
  • Llaneza and Reed each went 3-for-5 with multiple RBI (3 for Llaneza, 2 for Reed)
This concludes the regular season for the Blue Devils (26-18, 16-6), finishing second in the conference. They await the WHAC Tournament announcement, to determine their opponent.
