Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team hosted Mount Vernon Nazarene University at Blue Devils Stadium on Wednesday evening, coming away with a 2-1 victory.
The Blue Devils got going early, when Jessie Koje prepared Abigail Gray to set up a beautiful ball for Bridget Finneran. It was both Gray and Finneran's first career collegiate points.
The score remained the same until early in the second half, when Maddie Critzer knotted the game at one.
The Blue Devils would tack on another goal in the 72nd minute when a Dahlia Jerovsek pass downfield to Jaiden Konrad prepped for a perfect set piece to Emily Horne to give Lawrence Tech a 2-1 lead down the stretch.
Mount Vernon Nazarene threatened to tie the match in the final minute, but the Blue Devils' defense shut the door to cap off a 2-1 win.
Gabi Nelson (1-1) saved two shots in net, among a myriad of other clutch plays to earn her first collegiate victory.
The Blue Devils were outshot by the Cougars 16-7, but outshot them five to two shots on goal.
The women's soccer team's next match is Saturday, September 3rd, when they travel to face the Trojans of Trinity International on the road at 12 pm.
