UPLAND, Ind. – The Lawrence Technological University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches, defeating Clarke and losing to St. Thomas on Saturday to conclude the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament, hosted by Taylor University. In the Blue Devils first game of the day the team took on Clark University. LTU would take the match in five sets by scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 18-16. The Blue Devils followed that game with a loss to St. Thomas University in four sets by scores of 25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 15-25.
Game One: LTU vs Clarke
Set One:
- Clarke raced out to a 5-2 lead
- Back-to-back kills by Charley Klint and Madeline Hudson shaved the Clarke lead to one (5-4)
- Clarke took 8-of-10 to extend their advantage up to seven, leading to an LTU timeout
- Out of the timeout, CU took 4-of-5 to lead 17-7
- A block by Hudson and Klint made it 11-19
- The Blue Devils would drop the first set 17-25
Set Two:
- Abby Zambeck's set of serves netted the Blue Devils an early 5-0 lead
- A couple of attack errors brought Clarke within three (8-11)
- Following the teams trading two points each, the Blue Devils took 10-of-14, including three straight Klint service aces on the back end (23-14)
- Rachel Rochon would finish the set with a service ace of her own, LTU takes the second set 25-15
Set Three:
- Juliana Bollini's set of serves helped get the Blue Devils an early 6-2 lead
- Klint sandwiches a Riley O'Connell kill with two service aces, extending the lead to 12-4
- Clarke took 10-of-12 to tie the game at 14, leading to an LTU timeout
- Nya Matley, from Zambeck gave LTU the lead back, spearheading 6-of-8 for the Blue Devils
- Clarke would not go quietly, however, taking 5-of-6 to knot it at 21 apiece
- The Blue Devils would hold on to win 25-23
Set Four:
- Clarke came out to an early 7-2 advantage
- LTU would take the next 7-of-9 to even the score at nine
- Clarke took 10-of-14, led by Rachel Haubert who had three kills in that run
- A couple kills from O'Connell made it 19-16
- Clarke took 5-of-8 to take a 24-19 lead
- LTU would bounce back with four straight to bring it to 24-23 before Clarke ended the set on the next point, 25-23 Clarke forcing a fifth set
Set Five:
- The Blue Devils started with the first two points, quickly answered back by Clarke
- Neither team scored consecutive points again until LTU took a 7-5 lead
- The Blue Devils gained an 11-8 advantage after back-to-back Catelyn Chapin kills
- Clarke answered back with four straight to take a 12-11 lead
- Both teams were squared up at 13 a piece after an Klint attacking error
- The teams stayed deadlocked at 16
- In the final set, the Blue Devils took advantage of the extra volleys to win the last set 18-16
LTU beat CU by a final score of 3-2

Game Two: LTU vs St. Thomas
Set One:
- St. Thomas jumped out to a 4-2 lead
- A kill by Madeline Hudson gave the lead to LTU, 6-5
- A kill by Klint extended the LTU lead to 10-7
- STU closed the gap to 14-13 shortly thereafter
- The Blue Devils took 7-of-8 to jump out to a 21-14 lead
- The Cougars answered back with 5-of-6 to reel the deficit to 22-19
- An attack error gave the first set to LTU 25-20
Set Two:
- STU took an early 7-3 advantage
- Hubler's kill brought the Blue Devils within two at 10-8
- STU went up 15-9 to force LTU to call a timeout
- Following the timeout, the Cougars took 4-of-6
- The Blue Devils strung together 6-of-8 points to bring it to 21-17
- St. Thomas took the final four points to win set two 25-17
Set Three:
- STU jumped out to an early 10-2 lead
- Efforts from O'Connell and Matley made it 7-12
- LTU battled back to get as close as 19-22
- STU wouldn't back down as they came back to win set three by a score of 20-25
Set Four:
- Rochon gave LTU an early 4-3 lead after her kill from Zambeck
- Three errors in a row by LTU put the Cougars up 9-4
- Two kills by Hubler cut the lead to 11-9 for STU
- St. Thomas took 7-of-9 to take an 18-11 lead
- LTU would outscore STU 4-2 in the final moments, but would drop the set 25-15
STU beat LTU by a final score of 3-1

The Blue Devils next match is against Stephens College (Mo.) on Friday, September 2nd in day one of the Racer Classic in Elida, Ohio at Elida High School. The first serve is set for 5:00 PM for game one. In game two the Blue Devils will play Montreat College (N.C.) at 8:00 PM.
