#20 Roosevelt Rushes Past LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University football team scored on the first play from scrimmage but were unable to keep up with the #20 Roosevelt University Lakers as they trailed 28-7 at the half on their way to a 42-28 defeat on Homecoming weekend.

First Half:
  • On the first play from scrimmage, Tyler Kulka found Kendyl Williams on a fly pattern for a 75-yard score to put LTU up 7-0 from the jump.
  • Roosevelt answered on its next possession with a 7-yard rushing TD to knot the game at 7-7 after 3:45 minutes of play.
  • After an LTU 3 & Out, the Lakers scored on a 27-yard pitch and catch to go ahead 14-7 with 3:26 left in the opening stanza.
  • Kaleb Garner was intercepted on the first play of the next LTU drive but the Blue Devils' defense came up with a huge 4th & 1 stop at their own 39.
  • Unfortunately, LTU would turn it over on downs themselves on 4th & 3 at the Lakers 6.
  • Roosevelt followed by engineering a 12-play, 94-yard drive ending with a two-yard plunge to double the margin to 14, 21-7, with 9:07 left in the half.
  • LTU again turned it over on its first play of the possession, this time via a fumble, with Roosevelt taking over at the Blue Devils' 37.
  • The Lakers ballooned the margin to 21 with a 25-yd TD pass to extend the differential to 28-7 at the half.
Second Half:
  • Blue Devils' defense came up with a timely 3 & Out to start the third quarter which preceded a 25-yard strike from Kulka to Williams, their second TD connection of the day, to cut the deficit in half, 28-14, less than four minutes into the third quarter.
  • Once again, the Lakers answered with a 5-play, 68-yard drive to push the advantage back to 21, with a 6-yd TD scamper.
  • After a Roosevelt punt, Kulka found Nick Robinette on the second play of the fourth quarter for a 41 -yard TD strike to pull LTU within two touchdowns, 35-21.
  • The Lakers then put together a timely 12-play, 80-yard drive that killed over seven minutes of game clock to double up the Blue Devils 42-21 on a 2-yard quarterback sweep with 6:31 remaining in the game.
  • LTU tacked on another touchdown late with a 13-yard touchdown reception by CJ Thompson to make it a 42-28 final.
