Benjamin De Haas, Nicklas Oda Score for the Blue Devils

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--The Lawrence Tech men's hockey ACHA Division 3 team settled for a 2-2 overtime tie with visiting Central Michigan in Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference East Division action at Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Friday evening. The host Blue Devils move to 2-2-1 on the season while the Chippewas are now 3-3-1.

Things started well enough for LTU which grabbed a 2-0 lead midway through the game.

Benjamin De Haas got the scoring underway with a power-play goal with 6 minutes and 58 seconds remaining in the first period. At the top of the blue line, Connor Juhasz made a pass over to Will Jentz at the left face-off circle where he hurtled the puck toward a scrum at the top of the crease for De Haas to tip a shot just pass the goalie's legs.

Nicklas Oda made it 2-0 in the middle of the second period, ripping a shot off the goalie's glove into the upper-right corner. Devin Genzel was credited with an assist on the play.

But CMU cut the deficit in half with a goal less than 3 minutes left in the second period, with Kyle Robertson finding the back of the net with a power-play marker on a feed from Sam Camara. Jake Bishop got the equalizer with 5 minutes to go in regulation on a pass from Jay Naidu.

In the extra five-minute session, LTU dominated with six shots on goal to none for CMU. For the game, the Blue Devils outshot the Chippewas 47 to 22. CMU's Sam Zavelson made 45 saves and Owen Przybylo stopped 20 shots for LTU.

The teams have a quick turnaround tomorrow morning as the weekend series shifts to Martin Arena in Mount Pleasant for a 10:30 a.m. face-off.
