Blue Devils Edged in Overtime by Florida Gulf Coast in ACHAMD3 Hockey Action

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--Playing its third game in as many days, the Lawrence Tech men's hockey ACHA Division 3 team fell to visiting Florida Gulf Coast, 3-2 in overtime, Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Farmington Hills Ice Arena The host Blue Devils fall even to 3-3-1 on the season.

Robert Nussbaum scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left in the extra five-minute session from the left face-off circle, with Ryan Allamian getting the primary assist.

Just 10 seconds earlier, LTU thought it had the game winner. Logan Barnes skated from end-to-end and got between two Eagle defenders before releasing a high-danger shot that the goalie saved.

The Blue Devils led 2-1 after the first period. After Nathan Walker gave FGCU a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes and 54 seconds left, Brenden Henzie tied it 5:14 later on a pass from Devin Genzel. Then with 4:47 remaining, Barnes put the Blue Devils in front for the first time after taking a feed from Trevor Losier. Gavin Holmes also assisted on LTU's second goal.

The Eagles tied the score 2-2 with a power play goal with 1:50 remaining in the second stanza. Matthew Briggs got the equalizer on an assist from Jacob Langheinrich.

There was no scoring in the third period when both squads had seven shots on goal.

Timothy Young made 33 saves in the Blue Devils goal while FGCU netminder Evan Spinella recorded 28 stops.

Lawrence Tech resumes Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference East Division play next weekend, hosting Adrian on Saturday (11 p.m.) and then going to the Bulldogs' Arrington Ice Arena on Sunday (4 p.m.).
