Football Comes from Behind to Clip Taylor University on Senior Day, 41-37

Alex Osman completed 25 of 34 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns to lead LTU

SOUTHFIELD--Alex Osman completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Jaden Rembert to help power Lawrence Tech to a come-from-behind 41-37 victory Saturday over visiting Taylor University on Senior Day at Blue Devils Stadium. The Blue Devils improve to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League, while the Trojans fall to 2-8 on the season and 1-5 in the MSFA Mideast.

How it Happened
  • In a game that featured ebbs and flows for both sidelines, Osman connected with Rembert on a 34-yard TD pass that put the Blue Devils ahead for good, 34-31, with 1 minute and 57 seconds left in the third quarter.
  • Lawrence Tech rolled up 410 yards of total offense while Taylor had 293, and both squads had 21 first downs.
  • The Blue Devils led 14-6 after one quarter as Ben Brittain had a 1-yard TD run on the opening possession with 12:19 remaining and D'Vaun Bentley found the end zone from 10 yards out at the 4:42 mark.
  • The Trojans, however, scored 25 points in the second quarter to go up 31-24 at halftime. Jacob Cleaver had a 14-yard TD run at 6:48 to give TU its first lead of the afternoon, 17-14.
  • A Jonathan Harris 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after Vincent Robison kicked a 44-yard field goal for LTU made it 24-17 in Taylor's favor at 5:01.
  • The teams traded TD scores in the final 3:29 before going into the lockerroom as Jack D'Arcy caught a 32-yd TD pass from Damon Hockett for the Trojans and Rembert-from-Osman for 2 yards for the Blue Devils with 13 seconds remaining.
  • Rembert's score ignited a run of 24 unanswered points for the Blue Devils who took a commanding 41-31 lead with 14:56 left in the fourth quarter after Mauricio Jenkins hauled in a 5-yard TD throw from Bentley, who acted as if he was going to run the ball into the end zone himself but executed a jump-pass at the line to surprise the Taylor defense.
  • Hockett connected with Stephen Ellis on a 10-yard TD pass to cap an 11-play, 64-yard drive with 9:37 to go to account for the final four-point margin.
  • Taylor had another possession after intercepting Osman at the 50-yard line, but the LTU defense held the Trojans to 11 yards on five plays to force them to punt.
  • LTU then ran out the final 5:26 of clock time to seal the win.
  • Taylor missed a couple opportunities to score more points on touchdowns. In the first quarter, a holding penalty negated an 18-yard TD run by Dylan Scally. Instead, Lucas Shilts kicked a 45-yard field goal. One series later, a personal foul penalty at the LTU 1-yard line eventually led to a 32-yard field goal by Shilts.
