SOUTHFIELD--Sophomore
Kate Jacobs posted a double-double with 15 points and game-best 10 rebounds, but Saint Xavier University (Ill.) outscored Lawrence Tech 22-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 70-56 victory Saturday in non-conference women's basketball action at the Don Ridler Field House. The Cougars improve to 1-1 on the season while the host Blue Devils fall to 0-2 overall.
LTU Highlights
- Freshman DeDe Smith added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
- Jacobs added a game-high four blocked shots.
- Senior Jade Faris pulled down nine rebounds and blocked two shots.
SXU Highlights
- Alyssa Crenshaw led the team with 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
- Eleanor Harris added 14 points, followed by Hayley Macdonald and Bethany Baldwin with 10 apiece.
- Macdonald also dished seven assists and produced three steals.
How it Happened
- Saint Xavier never trailed on the evening, leading 20-16 after the first quarter and 34-27 at the half.
- The Cougars scored 22 points off 20 LTU turnovers and outscored the hosts 30-22 inside the paint.
- The Blue Devils stayed within striking distance for most of the evening by converting 20 of 25 free throws for 80.0 percent.
- Maggie Long (7 points) made a three-pointer to pull LTU within 52-50 with 8 minutes and 8 seconds left in the contest, but SXU sealed the win with an 18--6 run the rest of the way.
Beyond the Boxscore
- The Cougars also won last season's meeting, 84-78, in Chicago on Dec. 30, 2022.
- SXU competes in the ChicagoLand Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Lawrence Tech will be on the third game of its five-game homestand to start the season on Saturday, Nov. 11, when the Blue Devils entertain Concordia (Mich.) in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener at DRFS.
