Crusaders Clutch Hits Spell Doom for Blue Devils

DETROIT, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University baseball team played a doubleheader against Madonna University on Monday.

How It Happened: Game One - MU 4, LTU 2 How It Happened: Game Two - MU 10, LTU 9
  • Madonna started the scoring in the first with a Staelgraeve double into the gap
  • A sac fly in the second gave the Crusaders an early 2-0 advantage
  • LTU tallied five in the bottom of the second, thanks to a myriad of Madonna errors
    • Cam Hardy's pop up to second with two outs was dropped, plating Trent Reed
    • Stirnemann drove in DeKuiper on a single to right
    • Nick Olsen unloaded the bases with a double into the left centerfield gap, giving the Blue Devils a 5-2 lead after two
  • Madonna would score in each of the next four innings, plating 4 in the third to take the ead back immediately
  • The Blue Devils would end Madonna's 8 unanswered runs with 3 in the bottom of the sixth
    • Olsen's infield single scored Logan Walker
    • Llaneza followed with a sac fly to center, bringing in Kellen Harding
    • Reed earned a bases-loaded walk to add another run
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Kellen Banaszewski reached on what probably should've been an inning-ending double play, but the shortstop bobbled the ball and had no play. This scored Walker.
  • The Blue Devils rallied to get the tying run to the plate in each of the final two innings, but failed to get the run across.

The next Blue Devils game is on Saturday, March 25th when they play Indiana Tech at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit. The first pitch of game one will be thrown at 3:30 PM.
