Richmond, Ind. - The Lawrence Technological University men's soccer team squared off with Indiana University East for the teams season opener on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils came up with a big 3-1 win to start their season off.
The Keeper Goncalo Duraes made a pair of saves on a total of six shots for the Red Wolves, only letting 1 shot pass him.
The Red Wolves opened up the scoring in the thirty sixth minute of play to break the scoreless game. A penalty kick was kicked into the box and Duraes was unable to make the save.
The Blue Devils struck back six minutes later to bring the game back to a tie. Sophomore Danann Silvestre gets the first goal for the Blue Devils 2023 season with help of junior Jacob Schleicher to get the assist.
Scoring was silent for a while until sophomore Guillermo Garcia made some noise in the 83:32 mark of the contest to break the tie.
Only three minutes later, junior Victor Pueyo extended the Blue Devils lead with the assist from fifth year senior Ty Cerget to secure the Blue Devils first win of their season.
Lawrence Tech starts their season off 1-0 overall and will travel to face Goshen College in the next contest, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7p.m.
