Southfield, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech women's soccer team faced off against NCAA D3 school, Alma College this Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils recorded yet another shutout (third in a row) this season, as they shut down the Scouts.
The sophomore goalkeeper,
Gabi Nelson, who has recorded her third shutout this season, took seven shots on goal from the scouts and didn't let any of those shots past her. At the 69:48 mark of the second half, junior goalkeeper,
Sydney Schnurstein, got some playing time as well. The Blue Devils played the majority of the rest of the game in their zone which resulted in Schnurstein not receiving shots.
At the 21:44 mark of the first half, junior Kathleen Furguson lit it up for the Blue Devils to get the scoring going. The Blue Devils went into the second half up 1-0 with Furgusons goal. Even though the scoring was quiet in the first half, the game was not. Both teams got a lot of shots off as shots were 7-6 going into the second half in favor of LTU.
As soon as the second half started, Furguson wanted more as she scored the second goal of the game and her second of the night for the Blue Devils. Just about ten minutes later, fifth year senior
DiOnna Hill got in on the scoring action, as the ball became lose by Alma's net and Hill capitalized on it. Freshmen
Megan Rumija recorded her first career goal at the 70:14 mark and just less than two minutes away she netted her second career goal to make the score 5-0. Fifth year senior
Dahlia Jerovsek took a shot which hit the post and popped right out to Rumija, Rumija having a wide open net, only having to kick it in and she put it away for the Blue Devils fifth goal. With eight minutes to go in the game, junior
Sam Gorzynski recorded her first career goal for the Blue Devils to make the game 6-0.
The Blue Devils will have five days to recover and hope to keep the winning streak going as they will face another NCAA D3 school, who happens to be in the same conference as Alma, on Wednesday September, 20th at 7pm.
