LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Lawrence Tech men's cross country team participated in the Louisville Cross Country classic host by University of Louisville at the EP Tom Sawyer State park.
After winning the Silver Division last year at the race they were put into the more competitive Blue Division which had many NCAA D2 schools as well as a number of D3 and many ranked NAIA teams. The conditions were not Ideal for the Blue Devils, with the temperatures nearing 80 degrees and slightly humid.
Luke Droz was the team's top finisher, taking 66th place out of 429 runners with a time of 25:49. Â He was followed by Hunter Assenmacher (110th, 26:24), Chase Dietrich (254th, 27:28), Â Evan Wheeler (306th, 28:35), Ben Dawson (311th, 28:49), Jack Kelly (315th, 29:21) and Sebastian Tarhanich (317th, 29:44). Â The team placed 43rd out 45 teams with a average 8k time of 27:23 and overall total time of 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Coach Green on the performance: "We were not ready for the warm conditions at this meet today, I am not sure if having all our practices in the cooler conditions early in the morning was a big factor on how we ran today. The team has been killing it in all the workouts the past 2 weeks and did not translate to a successful performance from top to bottom."Â
As a team, the men are hoping at Muskegon in 2 weeks that they can get back at least one of their better runners, Conner Uppleger, back in the lineup to give the team the shot in the arm that they need.
The team will be off next weekend for the homecoming celebration events, but return to action October 14Â
