SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils men's basketball kicked off their season yesterday at the Don Ridler Field House against the Titans of the University of Indiana South Bend. The Blue Devils looked to capitalize on a successful 2023-24 campaign, where they finished 20-10 overall and 15-7 in WHAC league play. After losing their top scorer from a year ago, Lawrence Tech sought someone to step up and lead the team.
The Blue Devils got off to a slow start, allowing the Titans to jump out to an early 12-0 run. After a three-pointer by
Jimmy Salamone made the score 12-3, the Blue Devils' struggles continued as they allowed the Titans to roll on offense, leading to a score of 21-3 before LTU's next basket. This theme of offensive struggle persisted throughout the entirety of the game.
After the first half, Lawrence Tech headed to the locker room down 45-27, hoping to gain some momentum for the second half. It would take a team effort if there was any hope of making this a tight game.
Unfortunately, the Blue Devils' struggles continued in the second half. After a late surge brought the Blue Devils within 12 points of the Titans, they were unable to finish strong, losing to the Titans of the University of Indiana South Bend by a final score of 80-61.
The Blue Devils' efforts were led by senior
Cameron McEvans, who finished with 15 points, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds, along with senior
Jimmy Salamone, who finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Blue Devils will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Livonia, Michigan, to participate in the Bernie Holowicki Classic hosted by Madonna University. They will take on the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Goshen University Saturday at 1 p.m.
