Women's Hockey Defeats the Panthers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Lawrence Tech women's hockey team headed out to Davenport on Sunday evening after hosted them Saturday. After a 3-3 draw on Saturday, the Blue Devils were able to get the win Sunday, 4-2.  The Blue Devils are now 4-3-0-1 overall, while the Panthers are 0-1-0-1 overall.    

Lawrence Tech junior goalie Rachel Hart (4-3-0-1), started for the Blue Devils, making 27 saves off of the Panthers 29 shots. 

The Panthers struck first just 2 minutes and 19 seconds into the game. However, senior Sophia Buckberger tied the game up 15 minutes and 27 seconds into the first period. With 4 seconds left to go in the first period, junior Jordyn Bebus was able to gain the lead for the Blue Devils, closing out the first period with the 2-1 lead. The Blue Devils stayed hot at the start of the second period when freshman Kalina Pernod extended the Blue Devils lead to 3-1 in just 1 minute and 25 seconds into the period with help from freshman Alexis Zielinski. The rest of the period stayed scoreless for both teams, as the Blue Devils headed into the third period with a 2 goal lead. 

Zielinski extended the Blue Devils lead to 4-1 in just 6 minutes and 17 seconds into the third period with the assist from Buckberger, making that 4 unanswered goals. The Panthers struck back just a little over 6 minutes later but they were unable to comeback, allowing the Blue Devils for the 4-2 victory. 

The Blue Devils will take the week off and be back in action on Oct. 25 and 26 in a 2 games series for their conference opener (CCWHA), against the University of Illinois. This will be the first year for Illinois.
