The Blue Devils went 3-0 during the Finals after finishing 3rd in the qualification round

INDIANAPOLIS--The nationally No. 3-ranked Lawrence Tech men's bowling team made history this weekend by capturing the 2024 Hoosier Classic, an United States Bowling Congress tier 1 event, here at the Western Bowl on Sunday. COMPLETE RESULTS

The Blue Devils advanced to the Classic top-8 finals after placing third out of 78 schools during the qualification round, where they knocked down 9,159 total pins over six team and 15 baker games. This marks the highest finish ever for LTU at the Hoosier Classic, besting 19th-place showings last season and in 2020.

Lawrence Tech defeated Marian (Ind.) in two games (279-266, 237-184) in the quarterfinals and Oklahoma Christian also in two games (290-147, 257-227) in the semifinals to set the stage for the championship match against Ottawa (Kan.), The Blue Devils prevailed in four games over the Braves, 3-1 (193-190, 225-165, 149-213, 248-213).

Junior Costa Gastouniotis represented LTU on the Classic All-Tournament Team after a third-place overall finish with 1374 pins. There were 586 entries. Sophomore teammate Cayleb Carey joined him in the top-15 as he wound up 14th with a 1321 score--just seven pins shy of 10th.

After Day 1 of the event, LTU sat in second place with 6,415 total pins. The team had a series high of 1123 during the second game, and LTU was just one of two schools to go over 1000 pins in each of the first six games.

Lawrence Tech hits the lanes again next Saturday for the Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing, Mich., starting at 8:30 a.m. The Blue Devils last week won at least a share of their WHAC-best seventh regular season crown.
