MISHAWAKA, Ind.--The nationally No. 14-ranked Lawrence Tech men's volleyball team excelled both offensively and defensively to make quick work of Bethel (Indiana) by defeating the host Pilots 25-14, 25-11, 25-15 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match at Gates Gymnasium on Friday night. The Blue Devils have won seven straight to improve to 8-1 on the season and 4-1 in the WHAC, while Bethel drops to 6-4 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech hit a season-high .413 on 36 kills in 63 total attempts against just 10 kills while the Blue Devils defense held BU to a minus.-054 attack percentage.
Freshman
Mario Cid (.833 attack percentage) and redshirt junior
Brendon Down (.583) paced the LTU offense with match highs of 11 and nine kills, respectively. Junior
JT McCarthy added four kills (.400) and a match-best four total blocks, while freshman setter
Nathaniel Brownlee had 32 assists.
The Blue Devils had twice as many kills (36-14) as the Pilots, who were led by Arthur Barreto with five terminations.
Lawrence Tech owns its best start in its history through nine matches, and third-year head coach
Jacob Paige has a program-record 35 wins (35-31).
Lawrence Tech will remain on the road Saturday (7 p.m.) against Goshen (Indiana) College at Gunden Gymnasium.
