DeDe Smith recorded a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Lawrence Tech, but visiting Rochester University pulled away in the second half to down the Blue Devils, 72-59, in Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference slate women's basketball action on Saturday at the Don Ridler Field House. The Blue Devils slip to 10-12 overall and 8-8 in the WHAC, while the Warriors improve 12-10 on the season and 9-7 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Fifth-year senior Julia Huey tallied 15 points on five 3-pointers off the bench.
- Smith also led the Blue Devils with four assists.
Rochester Highlights
- Imari Martin led all scorers with 22 points and she had a game-best three steals while dishing three assists and grabbing four rebounds.
- Celeste Mershimer added 20 points, six rebounds, a game-high five assists and two steals.
- Melanie Moore (8 points) tied Smith for game-high rebounds honors at 11.
How it Happened
- Rochester led 35-28 at halftime but started the third quarter on a 14-0 run to claim its biggest lead of the afternoon of 21 points, 49-28, with 3 minutes and 54 seconds to go.
- The Warriors maintained a double-digit lead for most of the fourth quarter to keep LTU at bay.
- The Blue Devils didn't help themselves by shooting 64.7 percent from the free throw line (22-34).
- Rochester also forced 20 turnovers to outscore LTU 23 to 11 on miscues.
- The Warriors shot 41.9 percent from the field (26-62) while holding the Blue Devils to a 29.4 clip (15-51).
- Lawrence Tech took its last lead, 19-18, at 8:52 of the second quarter when junior Maggie Long (6 points) nailed a trey.
- Rochester eventually went up by 10 later in the quarter before taking a three-possession lead into the lockerroom.
