#RV Men's Volleyball Shows No Rust After Layoff in Sweep Over WHAC Rival Siena Heights

The Blue Devils defeated the visiting Saints 25-23, 25-22, 25-18

SOUTHFIELD--Host Lawrence Tech ("receiving votes" in the NAIA national rankings) showed no ill effects of a 10-day layoff between matches on Tuesday evening when the Blue Devils dispatched Siena Heights 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's volleyball action at the Don Ridler Field House.

Lawrence Tech has won four-straight matches by 3-0 scores to improve to 15-3 on the season and 8-2 in the WHAC, while the Saints slip to 8-10 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

The LTU offense hit .244 as a team with freshman Gustavo Machado (9), redshirt junior Brendon Down (8) and freshman Mario Cid (7) leading the way with nine, eight and seven kills, respectively. Down added six service aces and three total blocks, while sophomore Nathaniel Brownlee posted 30 assists.

Marc Arsenault led the Saints with a match-high 11 kills and Zak Tucker produced 23 assists.

Lawrence Tech took the first set by two points despite getting outhit .233 to .179.

In the second and third sets, LTU used significant scoring runs to get the victory. Trailing 11-7 in the second, the Blue Devils reeled off eight unanswered during Brownlee's service to take a 15-11 advantage as SHU committed seven errors during that stretch. The Saints then made four service errors as LTU went up two-sets-to-none. In the third, LTU broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-0 run to go up 9-3 and never looked back. The Blue Devils held leads of 12-6 and 16-10 before closing out the match.

Lawrence Tech also outhit SHU .355 to .174 in the final stanza to win by seven points.

Graduate student Matheus Andrade had 11 digs for LTU to pace all student-athletes on defense.

Lawrence Tech steps out of WHAC play this weekend during a trip to Illinois where it will meet Judson University on Friday, and Saint Xavier and Roosevelt universities both on Saturday.
