SOUTHFIELD--Lawrence Tech freshman
Gustavo Machado registered match highs of 12 kills (.348) and two service aces, but visiting Cornerstone used an efficient attack to down the Blue Devils 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 on Tuesday in a showdown of two of the top three teams in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's volleyball standings at the Don Ridler Field House.
Lawrence Tech sees its four-match win streak snapped to fall to 15-4 overall and 8-3 in the WHAC, while the Eagles now stand at 14-2 on the season and 10-2 in the conference. Both squads are receiving votes in the NAIA national rankings.

Nathaniel Brownlee posted 30 assists while redshirt junior

Mario Cid (7) recorded eight and seven kills, respectively, to aid the LTU offense.
Graduate student
Matheus Andrade tied for match-high honors with nine digs and Down and Machado had five each.
The Eagles outhit the Blue Devils .410 to .177, including a .419-.000 margin in the opening set. Andrew Galanes (.706), David Galanes (.474) and Ernest Broaster (.346) led the visitors with 12 kills apiece, Patrick Voloch dished 39 assists and Kyi Jagorin had two aces.
Lawrence Tech will host Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for a WHAC weekend series on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (3 p.m.) at The Don.
