Saints Bombard Blue Devils

CALEDONIA, MICH. -- The Lawrence Technological University baseball team faced the Aquinas Saints in a makeup of their rained out game on March 24.

The Saints offense was out to shine, unlike the previous inclement weather, scoring double figures in both games.

Game 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Aquinas came in swinging, punching the Blue Devils in the mouth, with 6 in the first
  • A 2-RBI single gave the Saints an 8-0 lead after two innings
  • LTU fought back with two runs apiece in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, clawing back to 8-6
  • Homers in the fifth and sixth for the Saints dashed any LTU opportunities at a comeback
NOTES:
  • Joel Stirneman got the start. He pitched 1 inning, allowing 6 runs (all earned) on 7 hits and no walks with no strikeouts. He was tagged with the loss
  • Stirnemann, Trent Reed, Jack Burch, and Nick Post all had two hits to get the offense flowing
  • Zach Meier extended his hitting streak to 11, while Jake Llaneza's streak was snapped at 10
Game 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  •  Aquinas put up the first 4 runs in game two, with 3 in the second and 1 in the third
  • Logan Walker's sac fly in the fourth got the Blue Devils on the board
  • Two batters later, Brady Rogers singled in Ben Moore, cutting the deficit in half
  • Aquinas posted 7 runs in the fifth to take a 12-2 lead
  • The final two innings wet in short order, leading to the mercy rule
NOTES:
  • Jeremy Flattery started and pitched 4 IP, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 9 hits and 1 walk, striking out 3.
  • Carter Dixon pitched a perfect sixth inning
  • Stirnemann and Llaneza led the team with two hits apiece
