UTICA, MICH. -- The Lawrence Technological University baseball team concluded their regular season with a doubleheader against the Siena Heights Saints. The Blue Devils took game one before dropping game 2.
Game 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Siena Heights started the scoring in the third, with runners on the corners, two singles plated both runners
- Joel Stirnemann and Trent Reed go back-to-back in the bottom of the third, tying the game at 2
- A 3-run homer gave the Saints a 5-2 lead in the fourth
- Zach Meier's 2-run shot in the fifth brought LTU within one
- The Saints answered back with a 2-run shot in the sixth
- Cam Hardy's pinch-hit 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 7
- Two batters later, Trent Reed broke the tie with a solo shot--his secnd of the game--to make it 8-7 LTU
- Matt Olson pitched a clean seventh to claim a save
NOTES:
- Kent Madak got the start and pitched 2 IP, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, striking out 3.
- Carter DIxon (1-0) and Matt Olson (Sv, 4) pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings to earn the win and save, respectively
- The Blue Devils hit a season-high 5 home runs in this game
Game 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A Stirnemann triple came home on a T. Reed sac fly
- SHU scored 3 in the third to take a 3-1 lead
- Saints homer in the fourth tacked on another run
- The Blue Devils got back on the board in the fourth, when Reed's infield single scored Nick Post
- Siena Heights answered back, with a run in the fifth
- The Saints scored 2 in the seveth and eighth to take an 8-2 lead
- Nick Post brought a run in with his solo bomb to left, making it 8-3
- LTU went quietly in the ninth
NOTES:
- Kyle Hennessey started and pitched 3Â IP, allowing 2Â runs (all earned) on 3Â hits and 1Â walks, striking out 5. He was tagged with the loss
- Ryan Hulke and Anthony Brohl pitched scoreless innings out of the pen
The Blue Devils (29-18, 21-11) await their draw in the WHAC Tournament, starting on Wednesday.
