Women's Hockey Shuts Out Colonials for a Two Game Split

MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn.-- The Lawrence Tech women's hockey team continued their road trip to Robert Morris Saturday, falling in a close battle in overtime, 4-3. The Blue Devils looking for redemption in game 2 on Sunday, as they did, winning 5-0. The Blue Devils are now 3-2-1 overall, while the Colonials are 1-1 overall.     

Lawrence Tech junior goalie Rachel Hart (3-2-1), started for the Blue Devils. Hart recorded her second shutout on the year.   

Senior Sophia Buckberger opened up the scoring for the Blue Devils with 3 minutes and 13 seconds left in the first period. Lawrence Tech headed into the second period with the 1-0 lead. 

Just 27 seconds into the second period the Colonials drew a penalty, sending the Blue Devils on the powerplay. 13 seconds into the Blue Devil powerplay graduate student Valeria Ortega got the puck right off the draw and passed it to Buckberger, Buckberger danced her way into the slot, ripping a shot past the Colonials goalie for her second goal of the game. With 56 seconds left in the second period, junior Jordyn Bebus extended the Blue Devils lead to 3-0, as Lawrence Tech headed into the third period shortly after.

With the Blue Devils on the powerplay again, Ortega ripped a shot from the blue line, which was saved, and freshman Kalina Pernod was there to pick up the juicy rebound in front for LTU's fourth goal. To conclude the Blue Devils scoring, freshman Alexis Zielinski passed the puck to senior Athena Chapman for her to tip it into the back of the net. 

The Blue Devils will be back in action Saturday at home for a 2 games series against D1 Davenport University for a 5pm puck drop.
