SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech D3 Hockey team secured a thrilling sweep over rival Adrian College this weekend, dominating the MCHC conference matchup with two dramatic wins. The series kicked off on Saturday, November 22, at Redford Ice Arena with a tight 2-1 overtime victory. After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils responded in the second with a power-play tally from
Luke Radu (assisted by
Josh Pedersen) at 14:30 to take the lead. The third period saw Adrian level the score, sending the intense battle into overtime. The decisive moment came early in the extra frame when Pedersen netted the game-winner just 3:58 into OT, securing the hard-fought win while shorthanded, with assists from Ben De Haas and
Tate Wright. Goaltender
Timothy Young was stellar in net, stopping 24 of 25 shots to lock down the victory.
The action continued on Sunday, November 23, where the Blue Devils completed the sweep with a dramatic 3-2 shootout victory on the road at Arrington Ice Arena. The game was a constant back-and-forth affair, with Adrian striking first in the opening period before Will Jentz (from De Haas) quickly answered for LTU. The second period saw a similar exchange, with Adrian scoring a shorthanded goal, only for Devin Genzel (assisted by Jeff Rand) to respond with a shorthanded marker of his own to keep the game tied 2-2. Neither team could break the tie in the third period or the subsequent overtime, forcing a nerve-wracking shootout. In the shootout, Jentz, Genzel, and Radu all found the back of the net to give the Blue Devils the 3-2 victory and the weekend sweep. The Blue Devils' disciplined effort was highlighted by their impressive penalty kill, shutting down seven Adrian power-play opportunities.
