DETROIT, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils opened the weekend with a commanding 10-1 victory, fueled by an aggressive offense that peppered the IUP goaltenders with 72 total shots.
Josh Pedersen set the tone early with a goal just 39 seconds into the first period, and the lead steadily grew with multi-goal performances from
Max Goulden and
Caleb Doll. Lawrence Tech's special teams were also on display, converting a power play in the second period and adding a shorthanded goal by Doll late in the third. While IUP managed to break the shutout with a goal at the 17:53 mark of the final frame, goalies Young and Foster combined for 19 saves to secure the win.
The momentum carried into Sunday as Lawrence Tech completed the sweep with a 12-0 shutout. The Blue Devils' scoring was balanced throughout the game, highlighted by Hunter Christopher and Max Kurzeja each finding the back of the net twice. Jeff Rand ignited the scoring with a shorthanded goal in the first period, while Benjamin De Haas and Caleb Doll contributed significant offensive pressure with multiple points each. Despite several penalties on both sides, Lawrence Tech remained disciplined defensively, allowing goalie Foster to earn the shutout.
The Blue Devils D3 hockey team will be back in action on January 16th for a weekend series against Calvin University. The Blue Devils currently hold a 12-4 record heading into the weekend.
