DETROIT, Mich. - In a tightly contested defensive battle on Saturday, the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils secured a 2-1 victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After falling behind early to a first-period goal, the Blue Devils surged ahead in the second period with back-to-back goals from
Maximus Nguyen and
Kevin Bond. Goaltender
Brett Tome delivered a stellar performance, turning aside 36 of 37 shots to withstand a heavy IUP offensive push. Despite two late penalties, the Blue Devils held firm in the third period to protect their one-goal lead and claim the win.
The following afternoon, Lawrence Tech completed the weekend sweep with a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory in a back-and-forth affair. Kevin Bond gave the Blue Devils an early lead in the first period, but IUP responded to keep the game deadlocked through most of the contest. Trailing by a goal late in the third period, Maximus Nguyen came through with a clutch equalizer at 19:19 to force overtime. Following a scoreless extra frame, Josh Ruelland scored the lone goal in the shootout to secure the win, while Brett Tome anchored the effort by denying every IUP attempt in the tiebreaker.
The Blue Devils will return to conference play this weekend against Aquinas, with game 1 of the weekend series taking place on January 16th in Grand Rapids.
