FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - In a hard-fought road game on Friday, the Lawrence Tech women's team narrowly fell to Davenport University 4-3 at the Patterson Ice Center. After falling behind in the first period,
Marybeth Graham tied the game at 1-1, and
Sophia Buckberger exploded for two goals in the second period, including a power-play tally, to keep the Blue Devils neck-and-neck with the Panthers. Despite a valiant 24-save effort from goaltender
Rachel Hart, Davenport managed to net the game-winner late in the third period.
The Blue Devils returned home to Farmington Hills on Saturday but struggled to contain Davenport's offense in a 5-2 loss. Buckberger continued her strong weekend by scoring her 18th goal of the season in the first period to keep the game close early on, and Kalina Pernod added a goal in the third period to spark a late rally. However, a persistent Davenport attack and several Blue Devil penalties allowed the Panthers to pull away, outshooting Lawrence Tech to secure the weekend sweep.
The Blue Devils womens hockey team will return to action on January 16th or a weekend series against Aurora University.
