AURORA, Ill. - The Lawrence Tech Women's hockey team traveled to Illinois for a tightly contested weekend series against Aurora University, resulting in two hard-fought ties. On Friday, January 16, the Blue Devils opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from
Jordyn Bebus, assisted by
Marybeth Graham. After Aurora equalized in the third, Graham reclaimed the lead for LTU with less than seven minutes remaining. However, Aurora responded quickly to force overtime, where neither side could find a winner, ending in a 2-2 draw. LTU goaltender
Rachel Hart was spectacular under a heavy workload, turning aside 47 of 49 shots to preserve the point for the Blue Devils.
The intensity continued into Saturday's rematch, which saw another overtime thriller end in a 3-3 tie. Aurora took an early lead, but Bebus found the net for her second goal of the weekend to keep LTU close. Sophia Buckberger then took over for the Blue Devils, scoring early in the second period and again in the third to reach her 20th goal of the season and provide a 3-3 deadlock. Despite being outshot 56-37, the Blue Devils relied on a massive performance from goaltender Chloe Lemke, who made 53 saves to hold the line through the extra period. The weekend showcased the team's resilience, as they earned two valuable points on the road against a high-volume offense.
The Blue Devils womens hockey team will return to action on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of January for the Traverse City Showcase in Traverse City, Michigan.
