SOUTHFIELD, Mich - The Blue Devils extended their perfect conference record with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Indiana Institute of Technology. Despite a furious second-half rally by the Warriors, the Blue Devils relied on an explosive offensive opening to secure the win and improve to 4-0-0 in conference play.
Lawrence Tech struck early in the physical match-up. In the 10th minute, forward
Alexander Prenkocevic found the back of the net unassisted to put the Blue Devils up 1-0. Indiana Tech had a golden opportunity to equalize just five minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick, but the shot sailed wide right. The Blue Devils defense held firm for the remainder of the period, carrying the one-goal advantage into halftime.
The second half opened with a burst of action from Lawrence Tech's attack. Just two minutes after the break,
Andrew Cook extended the lead to 2-0 off a well-placed assist from Prenkocevic. In the 54th minute,
Timotej Murcko capitalized on an unassisted opportunity to beat Indiana Tech goalkeeper, extending the Blue Devils' lead to a commanding 3-0.
Refusing to back down, Indiana Tech mounted a steady comeback attempt, scoring an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Warriors continued to pressure Lawrence Tech goalkeeper
Noa Benallegue, out-shooting the Blue Devils 9 to 4 in the final period. In the 80th minute.
The final ten minutes devolved into a highly physical battle, with both teams racking up a combined ten yellow cards throughout the evening. Lawrence Tech successfully drained the remaining clock to preserve the one-goal victory.
