LANSING, Mich. – Lawrence Tech's Blue Devils women's reserve bowling team delivered the program's top result at the Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, winning the WHAC Reserve title with a 3-1 match victory over Indiana Tech to cap a full day of bracket play for all four Blue Devils squads.
The women's reserve group controlled the championship match from the outset, posting back-to-back convincing wins to seize momentum. Lawrence Tech opened with a 206-170 decision in Game 1, then widened the gap with a 210-128 performance in Game 2 to move within one game of the title. Indiana Tech extended the match with a 184-164 win in Game 3, but the Blue Devils closed the door in Game 4, rolling a steady 178 and holding Indiana Tech to 107 to clinch the reserve championship 3-1.
On the men's side, the varsity Blue Devils pushed Lourdes to a decisive fifth game before falling 3-2 in the opening round. Lawrence Tech dropped Game 1, 256-199, but responded immediately with a sharp 245-170 effort in Game 2 to even the match. After a 205-182 setback in Game 3, the Blue Devils dominated Game 4, 254-136, to force a winner-take-all finale. In a tightly contested Game 5, Lourdes edged out a 222-198 win to advance, ending the Blue Devils' varsity run despite two emphatic Baker victories.
The women's varsity team followed a similar five-game path in its second-round match after opening the day with a sweep. Lawrence Tech began bracket play by dispatching Cleary 3-0, taking Game 1, 191-158, edging out Game 2, 160-151, and closing the series with a 180-156 performance in Game 3. In Round 2 against Aquinas, the Blue Devils pushed the match to the distance but ultimately fell 3-2. After splitting the early games, Lawrence Tech and Aquinas traded momentum in the middle of the series before Aquinas secured the final game to eliminate the Blue Devils in a narrow decision.
The men's reserve team also advanced out of the first round with a 3-2 victory over St. Francis (Ill.), using a strong finish to move on. Lawrence Tech started with a 187-155 win in Game 1 before St. Francis answered with back-to-back tight victories, 191-176 and 203-201, to take a 2-1 lead. The Blue Devils kept their tournament hopes alive with a 182-171 win in Game 4, then surged in the deciding Game 5 with a 254-181 performance to claim the series. The reserve run ended in the next round against Indiana Tech, as Lawrence Tech was unable to replicate its closing surge from the opener.
Across all four squads, Lawrence Tech showcased depth in Baker play and the ability to respond under pressure, with three of the program's four teams winning at least one match in bracket competition. The women's reserve championship highlighted the day, giving the Blue Devils tangible hardware from the conference event while the varsity and men's reserve teams gained additional postseason-style experience ahead of national qualifying competition.
Lawrence Tech now turns its attention toward the ITC Sectionals Qualifier in March, where the experience gained in tight five-game series and championship settings at the WHAC Championship is expected to be valuable as the Blue Devils look to extend their season on the national stage.
