MARION, Ind. - Lawrence Tech turned in a productive showing Friday at the Marian Invite, finishing the day with five event victories and one national qualifier as the Blue Devils opened the outdoor meet season with strong results across the track and field lineup.
The headline performance came from Martina Monserrat Vilar, who hit the NAIA B Standard in the hurdles to secure a national qualifying mark. Vilar also helped Lawrence Tech claim first place in the 4x100-meter relay, teaming with Latrice Williams, Jayde Ullenbrunch and Aliana Lewis for another event win. The relay victory added to a balanced day for the Blue Devils, who paired top-end finishes with depth throughout the meet.
Lawrence Tech picked up individual wins from Griffin Ambrusmacher in the 800 meters, Jade Ullenbrunch in the long jump and Anaiia Simmons in the 200 meters. Those first-place finishes gave the Blue Devils victories in both running and field events, a sign of team-wide production that carried the day in Marion. Ullenbrunch's performance stood out in particular, contributing to the winning relay and adding a long jump title as well.
Beyond the event wins, the Blue Devils showed strong depth with eight top-five finishes across the meet. This helped Lawrence Tech build a complete afternoon rather than relying on only a handful of standout efforts. In a meet setting where points are often shaped by depth as much as wins, the Blue Devils consistently placed athletes near the front of the field.
Friday's results gave Lawrence Tech an encouraging early outdoor benchmark, led by a national qualifying performance from Vilar reinforced by relay success and multiple individual titles. The Blue Devils are scheduled to return to action Saturday, April 4, at the Golden Grizzlies Invite in Oakland, Michigan.
