UTICA, Mich. - Lawrence Tech put the game out of reach early and never let Bethel (Ind.) back into it, rolling to a 19-3 win at Blue Devil Stadium. The Blue Devils led 6-1 after the first quarter, they stretched the margin to 13-2 by halftime and capped the afternoon with Morgan Waligora's sixth goal at the horn to finish the 19-3 result.
The decisive stretch came in the opening half, when Lawrence Tech controlled possession and turned that advantage into a flood of goals. Bella Louwerse opened the scoring in the first quarter, then Waligora struck twice, the second off an assist from Alyson Walendzak, for a 3-0 lead. Bethel got on the board on Pj Pearson's goal, but the Blue Devils answered with three more scores, including Walendzak's late finish, to close the quarter ahead 6-1.
Lawrence Tech added even more separation in the second quarter. Mari Pellmann scored just 41 seconds into the period off a Louwerse assist, and the Blue Devils continued to pile up chances. Louwerse made it 10-1 on a feed from Waligora, and Walendzak converted the team's lone free-position goal right before halftime for a 13-2 advantage. Lawrence Tech finished with 19 goals on 35 shots, including 29 on goal, while Bethel managed just three shots.
Waligora led the Blue Devils with six goals and three assists, while Louwerse added four goals and two assists. Walendzak filled the stat sheet with three goals and four assists, and Pellmann scored three times. Jocelyn Vander Zwaag scored early in the third quarter off another Waligora assist, Carmen Foster added a goal later in the quarter, and Tiyanna Thomas found the net in the fourth. Lawrence Tech's ball control showed up across the stat line with 17 draw controls, 20 ground balls and an 11-clear outing, while Bethel committed 24 turnovers.
Bethel goalkeeper Maddie Reel kept the margin from growing even larger with 10 saves. For Lawrence Tech, Madison Gugala was credited with three goals allowed as the Blue Devils' defense limited Bethel's attack to only three total shot attempts. Bethel scored once in each of the first, second and fourth quarters, with Kyra Dominick recording the Pilots' final goal of the fourth.
By then, the outcome had long been settled. Lawrence Tech led 16-2 after three quarters, got a late goal from Louwerse off a Walendzak assist to make it 17-3, then added scores from Thomas and Waligora in the closing minutes.
