GREENWOOD, Ind. — The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) men's and women's tennis teams hit the road for a Saturday doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan University at the Greenwood Tennis Center. Both Blue Devil squads battled hard but ultimately dropped their respective dual matches by identical 4-0 scores.
With the results, the LTU women's team moves to an even 7-7 on the season, while the men's team falls to 3-9 overall.
Men's Recap: Blue Devils Fall to Wildcats, 4-0
The LTU men opened their morning with tightly contested doubles matchups but were unable to secure the opening point. The Wildcats' duo of Lima/Klinkov managed to edge out LTU's
Carlos Patricio and
Takuya King at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. At the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, the pairings of
Augustin Patte/
Cael Guthrie and J. Escriba/
Jack Minhinnett both fell by 3-6 margins.
Transitioning to singles play, Indiana Wesleyan carried their momentum forward to clinch the necessary three matches.
Carlos Patricio (No. 1),
Augustin Patte (No. 2), and
Cael Guthrie (No. 4) suffered straight-set defeats to seal the Wildcats' victory.
Despite the clinch, several Blue Devils were putting up strong fights in their unfinished matches.
Takuya King dropped his first set 4-6 at No. 3 singles but was rallying beautifully, leading 5-2 in the second set when the match was called. Meanwhile,
Tyler Brunsell had jumped out to a dominant 3-0 lead in his opening set at No. 5 singles.
Women's Recap: LTU Drops Afternoon Contest, 4-0
In the afternoon matchup, the LTU women faced a formidable Wildcats lineup. Indiana Wesleyan secured the doubles point quickly with a 6-0 win at No. 1 over Jackie Alcocer and
Miriam McCormick, followed by a 6-3 victory at No. 3 over
Taylor Moore and
Claudia Calabuig.
Isabella Aray and Paola Herrera were battling in a close 3-4 match at No. 2 doubles when the point was clinched.
In singles action, the Wildcats secured straight-set wins at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 flights to clinch the overall 4-0 sweep.
Claudia Calabuig fell 1-6, 1-6 at the top spot, Jackie Alcocer dropped a 0-6, 4-6 decision at No. 2, and Paola Herrera was defeated at No. 4.
The bright spot for the Blue Devils came from
Isabella Aray at No. 3 singles. Aray played a brilliant opening set, defeating her opponent 6-4, and was early in the second set (1-2) when the overall dual was decided and the match was left unfinished.
